When Ian Fleming gave birth to the character of James Bond, a British Secret Service agent, he wouldn’t have thought that it would turn out to be a magnum opus. After featuring in 12 novels and 2 short story collections (by the original author), the character was then adapted for television series, comics, radio, video games and motion films. The first Bond film ‘Dr. No’ released in 1962 and with it started the era of ‘007’ and the luxury cars used in the movies. Aston Martin DB9 GT - While in Ian Fleming’s novels, the character of Bond drove Bentleys, the reel life character (in movies) rode in style in the meaty Aston Martins. In fact, the company built a special DB9 GT for the last outing of the Bond series, ‘Spectre’. In fact, Daniel Craig who played Bond in ‘Spectre’ was offered a free pass by the carmaker to drive any Aston Martin model he likes for the rest of his life.
Aston Martin DB5 - The third edition of the Bond Series, ‘Goldfinger’ featured Aston Martin DB5 in the 1964 blockbuster. Although, the company was initially hesitant on the proposal, but its appearance made DB5 a sensation back then. It was even used in the 2012 film, ‘Skyfall’.
Aston Martin V8 Volante - In the 1987 film, “The Living Daylights” the Bond drove the hardtop convertible, V8 Volante. While some modified coupes were also used in the film.
BMW 750iL - For a brief time, James Bond films also used some BMW cars in the movie. BMW’s famed model, 750iL featured in the 1997 film, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’. In the movie, Bond could control and even drive the car through his cell phone.
BMW Z8 - By the end of the 1990s era, when Pierce Brosnan essayed the iconic character onscreen, he got to drive the beautiful Z8 from BMW. Equipped with gadgets, the car was a perfect choice for the Bond film.
Ford Mustang Mach 1 - Ford’s pony car is among the several cars that have been featured in the James Bond movies. One of the characters in the 1971 flick, ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ was seen driving the iconic model. Some interesting stunts were shot using the Mustang Mach 1 that remain in the memories of the James Bond fans.
Jaguar XKR - Not just the lead protagonist, but the villains in the Bond series too drove in style. One such model that we could remember is the Jaguar XKR armed with machine guns, missiles and rockets.
Lotus Esprit S1 - While the love affair between James Bond and Aston Martin continues, some other luxury vehicles were also used in the film on and off. One such car is the Lotus Esprit S1 which was used in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. Interestingly, it also turned into a submarine in the film.
Lotus Esprit Turbo - Yet another luxury vehicle from Lotus Esprit, ‘Lotus Esprit Turbo’ makes it to the list of James Bond cars in the Lotus Esprit Turbo. Coloured in red, it featured gold wheels, white-letter tires and Olin Mark VI skis. Just so you know, the car was used in ‘For Your Eyes Only’.
Toyota 2000GT Roadster - In the 1960s film, ‘You Only Live Once’, the character of the Japanese S.I.S agent, Aki drove in the one-off 2000GT Roadster. Since the regular coupe was a bit small for Sean Cannery, Toyota built a special car which was used in the film.
