Hyundai, the South Korean automaker has finally entered into the hot hatchback segment. The company has officially revealed the new Hyundai i30 N fully fledged hot hatchback. This model directly rivals the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Honda Civic Type R. It is also the first model under Hyundai's new "N" performance brand.
Powering the Hyundai i30 N is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 247bhp of maximum power and 353Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed gearbox. The new model is claimed to be more powerful than the VW Golf GTI performance pack that has 242bhp of power. The i30 N also has performance pack that increases the power to 271bhp from 247bhp.
The standard model is claimed to accelerate to 100kmph from zero in just 6.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250kmph. On the other hand, the performance pack equipped Hyundai i30 N is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in mere 6.1 seconds, though the top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.
Talking about performance parts, the Hyundai i30 N gets launch control and a rev-matching function, five selectable driving models and electronically managed suspension. There is an 'N button' that gradually put the car into its most dynamic setup, but drivers can adjust settings using an N custom mode.
The Performance package of the car comes equipped with an electronic limited slip differential, a variable valve exhaust system and larger brakes. The wheel arches have been fitted to larger 19-inch wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero rubber.
The Hyundai i30 N looks quite similar to the regular model, but it has some new elements to give it an aggressive profile. The bike gets new aggressively designed front bumper, new front grille with a sporty red insert, etc. Adding to it, the hatchback gets new air inlets on each corner at the front that adds to its aerodynamics and brake cooling. At the back, the hatchback gets new rear apron, twin exhaust system and a new gloss black spoiler.
Inside the cabin, the hatchback gets new sport steering wheel with additional driving mode buttons, a new gearstick and sports seats. The hatchback is equipped with a five-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hyundai is also offering an optional 8-inch display with built in satellite navigation. For passengers' safety and security, the i30N gets autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and a driver monitoring system.
