The Tata Nexon compact SUV, which was unveiled at 2016 Auto Expo, will be one of the most crucial products for the homegrown automaker that is trying to regain its lost ground. Codenamed as Osprey or X104, the Tata Nexon mini SUV will be positioned below the Safari Storme. It is the first ever compact SUV from the Indian auto giant. Here's everything you want to know about Tata Nexon in our picture story -
Impact Design Philosophy - After Tiago, the new Nexon SUV will be the second Tata product to feature the company's new 'IMPACT' design philosophy. This mini SUV features Tata's characteristic Diamond DLO, Slingshot Line and Humanity Line. The vehicle looks largely identical to the concept and carries a coupe-like profile.
Platform - The Tata Nexon compact SUV is based on the modified X1 platform that also underpins the Zest and the Bolt. Upfront is a piano-black grille, projector headlamps, LED DRLs and upright bonnet. On sides, the mini SUV features a ceramic side finisher, contrast roof and new 16-inch alloys. At the back, the vehicle gets a sporty design with an integrated spoiler and stylish LED tail lamps.
An all-new diesel engine - The Tata Nexon compact SUV diesel version will be the most powerful car in its league. It will be powered by an all-new 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Harman Infotainment System with Freestanding Touchscreen - The Nexon will share most of its components from other Tata cars available in the market. The top-end model is likely to get a new generation Harman connectnext infotainment system with a freestanding touchscreen on the dashboard. The infotainment system will support navigation, Bluetooth and reversing camera.
AMT Gearbox - The compact SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the gasoline version will get a 1.2-litre Revotron motor, the oil burner will be a 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual (Petrol) and 6-speed manual (Diesel). The company might also introduce an AMT gearbox in diesel model, making it the second compact SUV to feature an AMT unit.
Launch in 2017 - The mini SUV was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo as concept and in 2016 Expo as near production model. The vehicle will be launched in the country in the first half of 2017, around April/May.
Dimensions - The Nexon will be a sub-4 metre SUV. It measures 3,995mm in length, 1,730mm in width and 1,600mm in height, and has a ground clearance of 2,470mm. The mini SUV will have a ground clearance of 200mm, which is sufficient enough to tackle Indian road conditions.
