3. Honda City
The Japanese automaker had introduced the new-generation City sedan with diesel engine for the first time in 2014, followed by a minor facelift in 2015. The sedan is the top selling car in its league. The saloon is available with two engine options – a 99bhp, 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel and 117bhp, 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol. The diesel version of the sedan delivers fuel efficiency as high as 26kmpl, while the petrol model offers 17.8kmpl. Transmission options on offer are a 5-speed manual and CVT.
The updated version of the saloon looks more premium and up-market than its predecessor. The car comes loaded with several bells and whistles including 8-speaker audio system with Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity, 5-inch LCD display, new infotainment system with audio visual navigation device, dual SRS airbags etc. Prices of the Honda City petrol and diesel start from Rs 8.10 lakh and Rs 9.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) onward respectively.

4. Ford Aspire
Seeing the growing demand for compact sedan segment, Ford India launched the Aspire sub-4 metre sedan in the country. The Ford Aspire is on the number four in the list of best mileage sedan cars in India. Available in three powertrain options – 1.5-litre TDCi diesel (MT), 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol (MT) and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol (AT) – the saloon offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 25.83kmpl, 18.16kmpl and 17kmpl respectively. The diesel model of the car delivers 99bhp with 215Nm, while 1.2L & 1.5L petrol models offer 88bhp with 112Nm (1.2L) and 110.4bhp with 136Nm (1.5L).
The Ford Aspire is based on Ford’s Kinetic design philosophy, and comes equipped with a wide range of comfort and safety features. The top trim of the saloon comes with a 4.2 MFD infotainment display, SYNC with voice control and AppLink system, MyKey and Emergency assistance, leather upholstery and 6 airbags. The Aspire is the second cheapest car in our list with price ranging from Rs 5.21 lakh – Rs 8.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
