Due to Coronavirus pandemic, auto makers have decided to postpone their plans in India. However, MG Motors owned by Chinese SAIC Motors has confirmed that the company’s plans for India are on track. The company will introduce the Hector Plus in June, while the Gloster SUV will go on sale during festive season – Diwali.
This development was confirmed by Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India while talking to AutoCarIndia on Instagram. Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Gloster will be MG Motors’ flagship model in the Indian market. Measuring above 5 meters in length, the MG Gloster is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 40 lakh. The SUV will be assembled at MG’s Halol based plant.
It is basically the re-badged version of the Maxus D90 SUV, which is currently on sale in the Chinese market. The SUV will be positioned as a premium alternative to the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4. The MG Gloster is the biggest SUV in its category. In fact, the SUV is as large as the Toyota Land Cruiser and Jeep Cherokee. It measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width and 1,875mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2950mm. The MG Gloster SUV will be powered by a new 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine, which is based on the FCA’s 2.0-litre MJD II turbocharged diesel unit. This engine produces 218bhp of power and 480Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.
Talking about features, the MG Gloster gets 8-inch MID, 3-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with connected car technology, leather seats, and electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions. For safety and security, the SUV gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, ESP, hill hold and descent controls, 360 degree camera, front and rear parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, etc.
