Ford W601 & W605 SUVs: New Details Emerge

The new Ford W601 SUV will take on the upcoming Tata Harrier.

Ford Motor Company and Mahindra & Mahindra had announced a strategic alliance in September 2017, followed up with five MoU (Memoranda of Understanding) in March 2018. Under this agreement, Mahindra will develop and supply a low displacement petrol powertrain to Ford India. The American carmaker will use this gasoline motor for its existing and future vehicles, starting in 2020.

Besides this, both companies will share vehicle architectures, electric vehicles, powertrians and connected car solutions. With this agreement, both carmakers will save “$500 million to over a billion dollars” in the next three to five years. According to a report, Ford and Mahindra will soon announce an agreement on C-segment SUV. The negotiations for the B-segment SUV and an electric vehicle platform, however, are currently in the process. Ford’s C-segment SUV (codenamed W601 and W605) might share its platform with the new-generation Mahindra XUV500, which is due for 2020. This new SUV will be stacked up against the Tata Harrier.

Rumor has it the new Ford C-segment SUV could be offered with two seating layouts – 5 and 7-seats, similar to its arch rival – Harrier. The platform that will be used for the SUV is compatible for both seating arrangements. However, there is no official word on the same. Mahindra’s Chakan plant might serve as production hub for the new Ford W601 SUV.
