BMW’s super-luxurious hybrid, i8 is available in one variant. Sporting a futuristic design, it is undoubtedly the most expensive and desirable hybrid car in India. Up front, it gets low slung styling, a large hood and a chopped rear. BMW’s quintessential kidney grille is flanked by the full LED headlamps and a sporty bumper. In terms of power it uses a 1.5-litre, three cylinder twin scroll turbo engine with 231bhp and 320Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic unit that sends power to the rear wheels. While the front wheels are linked to an electric motor through a two-stage AT box. It makes 131bhp of power and is mated to a 5kWh lithium-ion battery. Offering a collective power of 362bhp with 570Nm, it propels to 100kmph from 0 within 4.4 seconds.

6. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga SHVS
After introducing Maruti Ciaz SHVS, the company soon launched its MPV, Ertiga with the mild hybrid technology. Available on the diesel engine, the SHVS technology helped Ertiga deliver higher fuel economy. Just like Ciaz, it also comes with an integrated starter generator and a high capacity battery. This set up not only enhances the efficiency of the engine, but it also saves energy when braking.
