15. Mahindra XUV500
Mahindra XUV500 is the cheetah inspired SUV that broke the monotony for Mahindra and its style put it in competition with some of the most stylish SUVs. Technologically Mahindra was always sound but in terms of design, maintenance, running costs, quality etc. XUV500 marked a beginning of the change. Though, the top of the line aren’t under Rs. 15 lakhs but Mahindra XUV500 does offer three excellent variants that are. The variant which fall under the best diesel cars in India under Rs. 15 lakh category are W4 which is priced at Rs. 12.2 lakhs, W6 priced at Rs. 13.6 lakhs and the forward wheel drive W6 with automatic transmission that is tagged at Rs. 14.5 lakhs, ex-showroom New Delhi.
The SUV is powered by a mHawk140 diesel engine which uses the 5th generation Variable Geometry turbocharger ensuring a power output of 140Bhp at 3750rpm and a maximum torque of 330Nm between 1600 – 2800rpm. The manual transmission is the 6 speed synchromesh gearbox while the automatic variant uses a 6 speed gearbox as well. This 6 speed automatic transmission gives the car a very dynamic feel and a peppy responsiveness.
In terms of features you get ABS with EBD, dual front airbags as well as a 7inch color touchscreen infotainment screen which displays GPS as well as offers compatibility with USB for audio and video, Bluetooth audio, handsfree calling, iPod connectivity etc. in the W6 variant whereas the W4 variant features a 6inch monochrome infotainment screen with USB, Bluetooth, Audio, Handsfree call as well as MP3/CD compatibility.
