Jeep electric SUV

The 7-seater Jeep SUV, codenamed D-Low will be launched in the Indian market in the second half of 2021.

American automaker, Jeep is all set to unveil the new Compass facelift on June 4, 2020. The SUV is scheduled to be launched in the global markets in the end of this year, while India launch will take place in 2021. Jeep is also working on 2 all-new SUVs – a 7-seater Compass based SUV and an all-new sub-4 meter SUV.

Jeep will first launch the 7-seater SUV in 2021, while the sub-4 meter SUV is expected to be launched in 2022. The SUV was planned to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2021; however, the launch has been pushed for few months due to coronavirus pandemic. Now, the Jeep 7-seater will go on sale in the second quarter of 2021.

Upcoming Jeep SUVs

The new Jeep 7-seater SUV will be based on the FCA’s small-wide platform, which also underpins the Compass and the Renegade SUV. However, the platform will be tweaked to accommodate a longer 7-seater body. Not just elongated length, the wheelbase of the SUV will also be increased significantly to accommodate third row of seats.

The SUV won’t be a stretched or long wheelbase version of the Compass. In fact, the company will design and develop the new SUV from scratch. The SUV will have unique design, which is likely to be shared with the Commander SUV on sale in China. The new Jeep SUV, codenamed D-Low, will be developed for growing markets including India and Brazil. The SUV will be produced at FCA’s Ranjangaon facility in India and will be exported to select RHD markets globally.

In India, the upcoming 7-seater Jeep SUV will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4. To be produced locally, the new Jeep SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh. The SUV will be powered by the tried & tested 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Compass. This engine is capable of producing 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. Jeep could use the twin-turbo version of this engine with power over 200bhp. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV could also receive the BSVI compliant 1.4-litre MUltiAir petrol engine with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
