With the increasing demand for compact SUVs in the country, carmakers are trying hard to make their presence in this segment. These days’ people are opting for small family SUVs over the premium hatchbacks and entry level sedans, and the reason could be the pricing. At the price of a premium hatch you could drive home a compact SUV. Currently, Ford EcoSport and Volkswagen Cross Polo hatchback crossover are the sub-4 metre products in the segment, which will soon be joined by Toyota Etios Cross. Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014, the cross hatch will be launched in first week of May, 2014. Here we bring you a small comparison between the Toyota Etios Cross against its closest competitor Cross Polo.

Volkswagen Cross Polo is basically a beefed up version of the Polo hatchback and is only offered in one variant with one 1.2L diesel engine that also powers the standard Polo hatchback. This model gets rough plastic cladding, 15-inch alloy wheels and roof rails to offer sporty stance. It is loaded with high end comfort and safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), integrated music system, multi-functional display, automatic climate control, adjustable steering and others.
On the other hand, the Toyota’s new model Etios Cross will be made available in both and petrol guise and wide range of variants to choose from. The top spec model will feature an integrated 2-DIN audio system which is compatible with AUX-in, USB and Bluetooth. On safety front, the top spec model features ABS (Anti-Lock Braking system) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), dual airbags, central locking, engine immobilizer and many more.
The Volkswagen Cross Polo is priced at Rs. 7.76 lakh. On the other hand, the Etios Cross is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6 lakh to 8 lakh.
