January 18, 2017 – Tata Motors has finally launched the Hexa SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Tata Hexa has been introduced as a replacement to the Aria crossover that failed to create any buzz in the market. The new 7-seater SUV, that sits somewhere between compact SUV and premium SUV segments, creates a niche segment. Though it won’t have a direct competitor in the market, it will become threat for cars like Mahindra XUV500, Toyota Innova Crysta, Honda BR-V, etc.

The Honda BRV 7-seater SUV is based on the extended Brio platform, and available in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol version of the SUV is priced in the range of Rs 8.88 lakh – Rs 12.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the diesel BRV costs between Rs 9.99 – 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Being a a more premium product, the Tata Hexa is slightly pricier than the Honda BRV. Prices of the new Tata SUV start from Rs 11.99 lakh for the base model, go all the way up to Rs 17.49 lakh for the top-of-the-line variant. Aforementioned prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

The BR-V from Honda, as mentioned above, comes with both petrol and diesel fuel options. Powering the petrol model is a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine producing a maximum power of 118bhp and 145Nm of max torque. On the other hand, the diesel motor is a 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit that has been borrowed from the City sedan. This powertrain churns out power worth 99bhp against 200Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, while a CVT automatic unit is offered as an optional with petrol version.

Tata offers the Hexa with two diesel powertrain options – a 2.2 litre 4-cylinder VARICOR 400 and a 2.2 litre VARICOR 320. The base variant comes powered by a 2.2 litre 4-cylinder motor that is good for 148bhp (at 4,000rpm) and 320Nm of torque (1,700rpm to 2,700rpm). Moving higher in the carline – the XM and XT variants are offered with the 2.2 litre VARICOR 400 unit that belts out 154.2bhp at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of torque between 1700 to 2700rpm. The SUV comes with three gearbox options – a 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT, supported by 2WD and 4WD system.

While the petrol version of the BRV is claimed to return 15.4kmpl mileage, the diesel version delivers an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 21.9kmpl. On the other hand, the Hexa gives an average around 13kmpl – 14kmpl in city and over 17kmpl on highways.

Tata Hexa Vs Honda BRV Dimensions
Being a 7 seater, the BRV is longer than its closest rivals – Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The overall length, width and height of the vehicle measure 4,453mm, 1,735mm and 1,666mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 2,662mm, and a ground clearance of 210mm ensuring hassle free driving on all sorts or regular terrains. With all 3-row in position, the SUV offers a luggage compartment of 223-litres which can be extended by up to 691-litres by folding the 3rd row of seats.
The Hexa SUV is longer, wider and taller than the BR-V. It measures 4,788mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,785mm in height. Offering 200mm longer wheelbase than Honda’s 7-seater SUV, the Hexa offers a more spacious cabin to its occupants. It has a ground clearance of 200mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.

Wearing a modish design and bold stance, the Hexa looks quite aggressive. The SUV has an aggressive front fascia, thanks to the massive honeycomb grille and bumper with brushed aluminum skid plates, stylish projectors, LED daytime running lights, body cladding and pronounced wheel arches. It also gets blackened B, C and D-pillars, dual-tone rear bumper with dual-exhaust tips, new LED taillights and roof mounted spoiler.

The new Tata SUV is available in two-seating layouts – 6 seats and 7 seats. The 6-seat configuration model gets captain seats in all three rows. Other key features on offer include Multi-information display, a touchscreen infotainment system with park assist and navigation, leather seats with contrasting stitches, ambient mood lighting, automatic climate controls, rear AC vents, etc. For passengers’ safety and security, the SUV comes loaded with advanced safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), brake assist, traction control system, and rear parking sensors with camera.
Based on Honda’s ‘Active Solid Motion’ design philosophy, the BR-V comes with a bold stance and tough and solid body built. The vehicle looks like a jagged up version of the Mobilio MPV. The vehicle is equipped with features like projector headlamps with black inserts, plastic body cladding on the wheel arches, skid plates, plastic underbody protection and roof rails. On sides, the SUV has strong character lines and flared wheel arches fitted to a bespoke diamond finish 16-inch alloys. At the back, the SUV gets sporty design thanks to LED taillights with C-shaped graphics and plastic body protection.

The car has a seven-seat layout with three-row seating arrangement. It comes with a versatile 3 row interiors – 1st row with driver height adjuster, driver and passenger seat slide, 2nd row with 60:40 split seats, slide and recline, one touch tumble seats and 3rd with 50:50 split seats back, seat recline and complete seat fold for extra luggage space. Talking about features, the vehicle gets leather seats, MID, Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming, push button start, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, centre console with piano black finish, etc. For passengers’ safety and security, the SUV gets ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, hill start assist and vehicle stability assist.
