The much-awaited- Renault Kwid– has finally launched in the Indian car market. Positioned below the Pulse in Renault India’s portfolio, the crossover-ish hatchback is being manufactured at the company’s Chennai based plant. Based on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform that will also underpins the upcoming Datsun redi-Go based hatchback, the kwid competes against the likes of the Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, Datsun Go, Maruti Wagon R and the Maruti Celerio. It is equipped with various segment leading features, and it is one of the most spacious cars in its league. Here is a brief comparison among the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and the Hyundai i10.
Renault Kwid Vs Maruti Alto K10 Vs Hyundai i10 – Specs
Powering the Alto K10 is a tried & tested 1.0-litre K-Series petrol motor that is good for 67bhp of power and 90bhp of torque. On the other hand, the Hyundai i10 gets a 1.1-litre iRDE2 petrol motor producing 68bhp and 99.08Nm of torque.
The Kwid hatchback, on the other side, is powered by a newly developed 0.8-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 53bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. Clearly, the Hyundai i10 is the most powerful among the three, followed by Alto K10. Though the Kwid offers the best power to weight ratio among the three, thanks to its light weight. All three models are coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Alto K10 also also gets an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) option.

Renault Kwid Vs Maruti Alto K10 Vs Hyundai i10 – Design
The Renault Kwid features a very unique styling and looks better than its competitors including the Alto K10 and the i10. Based on Renault-Nissan’s modular CMF-A platform, the car gets SUV like styling. It features a dual-slat grille, sweptback headlamps and stylish fog lamps on the lower bumper. On sides, the vehicle has plastic cladding, rectangular shaped wheel arches and manually operated ORVMs. The rear end gets black bumper and body-coloured tailgate spoiler. Dimensionally, the Kwid is 3.680mm long, 1,471mm tall and 1,580mm wide, and it offers best-in-league ground clearance of 180mm.
The Maruti Alto K10 resembles its smaller sibling – the Alto 800. It features a large chrome grille, upside down rectangular air intake, sweptback headlamps and a sportier bumper. On sides, the hatchback gets flared wheel arches, slightly differently-shaped rear roofline and wing mirrors. The rear too looks identical to the smaller sibling. The Alto K10 measures 3,545mm in length, 1,490mm in width, 1,475mm in height, and it has a ground clearance of 160mm.
Talking about the Hyundai i10, the tall boy hatchback gets simple, yet attractive exterior styling. Upfront is a mesh grille with single chrome slat runs across the width, while the bolder, and bigger headlamps add to its look. The rectangular shaped fog lamps and wider air-dam look decent. The side profile gets floating line that runs across the length of the car, while the slightly flared wheel arches add to its styling quotient. The rear gets large windscreen, simple yet effective tail lamps and body coloured bumper. Dimensionally, the hatchback is 3585mm long, 1595mm wide and 1550mm tall, and it comes with a ground clearance of 165mm.

Renault Kwid Vs Maruti Alto K10 Vs Hyundai i10 – Interiors
The Kwid gets a spacious cabin that looks premium, and is equipped with various segment-leading features. It features the segment-first Media-NAV with a 7-inch touchscreen display and navigation system and a fully digital instrument cluster. Feature list include chrome AC vents, front power windows, leather wrapped steering wheel, chrome finished instrument cluster, optional driver side airbag, etc. The Kwid is claimed to offer a segment leading boot space of 300-litres.
The Hyundai i10, on the other side, is one of the most spacious cars in its league. It is equipped with decent features like air conditioning, tilt adjustable steering, fabric upholstery, front and rear head-rests, driver side window with one-touch down function, 2-DIN audio system with USB, AUX-in, MP3 playback, CD player and AM/FM Radio. It comes with a luggage carrying capacity of 225-litres.
Talking about new Alto K10, the hatchback gets a new cabin with dual-tone blackish-grey and beige scheme for dashboard and other parts. The steering wheel and the instrument clusters are all new. It gets a piano-black coloured 2-DIN music system with AUX, USB and CD player. There is silver bezel for the air-con vents. The hatchback offers a decent 177-litres of boot space.
