The compact SUVs are still new to the Indian market, with carmakers vying to venture into the segment with their respective offerings. It pretty much started with Renault Duster back in 2012 and rest of the models ensued it. While several new models have been added during these five years, the early entrants have either received a facelift or getting ready for a generation change. Renault Duster is also readying to propel into a new generation sometime in 2018 and we bring you a detailed report on how distinct it will be from the existing model.

Old Renault Duster-

-The current Renault Duster comes in three petrol and nine diesel variants.

-The petrol variants are available in manual and CVT options, priced between Rs 8.42 lakh to Rs 10.14 lakh.

-Diesel-powered Duster on the other hand, comes in manual, AMT and AWD variants with prices starting from Rs 9.36 lakh and going up toRs13.66 lakh. (ex-showroom, Delhi).

New Renault Duster-

-The new Renault Duster will also come with petrol and diesel engine options. Transmission choices are also likely to be carried over.

New Renault Duster-

-The new Renault Duster is likely to share engines with the predecessor. That said, it could get the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre K9K oil burner.

-The engines could however be tuned for improved performance.

-Transmission choices are also expected to be retained, which means it could come with a manual unit along with an AMT and CVT gearbox.

Old Renault Duster-

-The current model gets the 105bhp, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine in two states of tune (85bhp & 108bhp).

-The petrol variants in the carline get a 5-speed manual gearbox with an optional CVT on the RxS trim.

-New Renault Duster is likely to inherit the same petrol and diesel engines from the current model, hence it is expected to return the same fuel economy.

-The current model returns 13km/l in petrol manual and 14.99km/l in petrol automatic version. Diesel manual Duster (84bhp)is rated at 19.87km/l opposed to 108bhp version with 19.72km/l. The AMT version on the other hand returns 19.60km/l.

The new Renault Duster is expected to receive a bunch of new features.

-One of the prominent bits will include new touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

-The current model misses out on the push start-stop button, hopefully the new-gen model will get this feature.

Old Renault Duster-

-The current-gen Duster gets standard remote central locking and engine immobilizer.

-Features such as ABS, EBD, brake assist, rapid deceleration warning is offered from RxE trim.

-Prominent safety tech such as electronic stability program and hill-start assist are reserved for the CVT, AWD and AMT trims.

-While the reverse parking camera with guidelines is restricted only to the top-spec RxZ variant.

-Along with these features, the SUV also gets impact sensing door unlock, speed sensitive door lock, rear defogger, driver seat belt reminder and rear wiper and washer.

-In the global NCAP crash tests conducted in May this year, the base variant of Duster scored 0 star for adult occupant & 2 stars for rear child occupant protection. The mid-variant with driver side airbag performed better and scored 3-star rating.

-Contrary to the above results, the same model made in Columbia scored 4-star rating in the 2015 LATIN NCAP crash test as it equipped larger sized airbag than the Indian version.

New Renault Duster

-As for the new model, it is expected to get dual front airbags, ABS and EBD as standard.

-It will additionally receive 4×4 all-wheel drive system with locking differential lock with multiple driving modes, ESP, hill launch assist and rear parking camera with sensors.
