      Hi Santosh

We found Baleno slightly better than the Elite i20 when it comes to performance or driveability. On the other hand, the i20 offered more premium and better equipped interiors and stylish exterior.

Baleno is quite a successful car, it’s in fact equal in terms of sales unit. You can go for either of these two cars, both are good and are among top-selling models.

    • Editorial Team

      June 11, 2016 at 8:10 AMJun

While the looks are quite subjective, we won’t comment on that. In terms of fuel efficiency and value-for-money proposition, the Baleno has an upper hand. While in terms of power, the Elite i20 has an edge. As far as features are concerned, both the cars come loaded with several of them.

The Baleno is about 100 kgs less than the i20. Although it will improve FE, there is no safety in sitting in a tin can, is there? It also looks like a typical run of the mill hatchback, nothing eye-catching with the design. The all black interiors look pretty drab and very similar to other Maruti models. The i20 on the other hand looks more fresh and premium. Heck, I would buy it for the looks alone. If you prefer to buy lower variants and make a few mods then don’t look beyond the i20. Check out the modified i20s on FB. They are just awesome.

Weight isn’t the only parameter that makes a car safe. The overall structural integrity of a car depends upon the material used. There are hyper cars in the world with weight just around 800-900Kgs, but the kind of material that their makers have used to build them is top-notch. The Baleno is as safe as the i20 and has secured 4 star rating in Euro-NCAP. And for your information, the same model is being sold in India as well.

If you need a car that offers you a great pickup and more fun to drive, the Baleno petrol should be your pick. The Elite i20 doesn’t feel as exciting as the Baleno due to heavier weight.

    July 6, 2016 at 8:10 PMJul

I am really confused in b/w the two, which one to take,i20 Elite (p) or baleno(p).
I have seen many people saying elite a under powered car(p).
    Is this true ?

    • Editorial Team

      July 6, 2016 at 8:10 PMJul

Though on papers the Elite i20 petrol looks powerful enough, but it doesn’t accelerate as fast as the Baleno. Take a test drive of both the cars to decide which one you like more.

The Baleno being a premium offering from Maruti Suzuki gets good quality material. It’s in fact one of the best Maruti Suzuki in terms of interior quality.

    • Editorial Team

      July 21, 2016 at 8:10 PMJul

In comfort, value-for-money and resale value, both the cars score equal. But in terms of maintenance, the Baleno surely has an upper hand.

    • Editorial Team

      July 21, 2016 at 8:10 PMJul

Both the cars that you mentioned are good. The i20 is slightly more powerful than the Baleno, but the Baleno is more fun-to-drive. In terms of fuel efficiency and maintenance, the Baleno surely is a lot better than the i20.

Hi, as I heard that i20 elite sportz (petrol) has some suspension and mileage problems. Please suggest

    • Editorial Team

      February 13, 2017 at 8:10 PMFeb

Fuel efficiency of a car depends upon several factors including the regular maintenance of a car, road condition and driving habits. In city the Elite i20 diesel returns around 15kmpl. As far as the suspension is concerned, it’s a city-focused to offer good ride quality. And it’s because of this, the car feels bouncy at times when drive on really bad roads. We won’t say it has a bad suspension, but this could have been a little stiffer.
