The Baleno is built on Suzuki’s new-generation platform that makes it lighter and more agile than other Maruti cars. The hatchback measures 3,995mm in length, 1,745mm in width and 1,500mm in height, and comes with a large wheelbase of 2,520mm. The vehicle offers an impressive boot space of 339-litres, which is second best in segment (Jazz offers 354-litres of cargo space).
On the other hand, the Hyundai Elite i20 is 3,985mm long, 1,734mm wide and 1,505mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,570mm. Though, the hatchback offers a boot space of 285-litres, which is around 55-litres less than the Baleno.

Powering the Maruti Baleno 2015 is a 1.2-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that produce a maximum power of 82.8bhp with 115Nm of peak torque, and 73.9bhp with 190Nm respectively. A five-speed manual transmission comes as standard offering, while a CVT automatic gearbox is available only on the Delta petrol trim.

The Hyundai Elite i20 is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel. While the former with a 5-speed manual transmission delivers 83bhp of power and 113Nm of torque, the latter one with a 6-speed manual gearbox offers 89bhp and 219Nm. There is no automatic gearbox option on offer.
The new Maruti Baleno is based on Suzuki’s new-generation platform that will also underpin the new Swift twins. With features like projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a sloping roof, wraparound windows, alloy wheels and sporty rear design, the Baleno looks more contemporary than most of its rivals.

Designed on Hyundai’s new Fluidic V2.0 design theme, the Elite i20 looks more refreshing and sportier than the previous model. It gets forward leaning stance, and features a wide air intake with mesh design and chrome surrounds grille that look similar to the one found in the Grand i10. The car also features wide swept back headlamps with integrated reflectors, bold shoulder lines and bonnet creases, a floating roof and other design elements.

The 2015 Baleno is more spacious and feature loaded than the Swift. The hatchback offers an excellent legroom and headroom for both front and rear occupants, thanks to its 2,520mm long wheelbase. The top-end variant is equipped with the segment first 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, while LCD display on instrument panel, 2-DIN audio system, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, etc come as standard features.
