The mid-sized sedan segment has been witnessing a furious rivalry in the Indian car market. It was Hyundai Verna that ruled the mid-sized sedan market for good 3-4 years; however, the new generation de-throned the Korean car to become the segment leader. Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker had launched the Ciaz mid-sized sedan in 2014 which then displaced the Verna to grab the number 2 spot in no time.
And after the launch of the Ciaz SHVS mild-hybrid version, the sales of the Ciaz became even better and in fact it did beat the City several times and the fight it still on. Here we bring you a spec based comparison between the top two selling mid-size sedans – Ciaz and the City.
Maruti Ciaz Vs Honda City – Design, Interiors and Features
The design inspiration for the Ciaz sedan comes from Suzuki’s Authentics concept, which was first showcased at the 2014 Shanghai Motor Show. The front fascia of the sedan gets trapezoidal grille with chrome accents, large angular shaped projector headlamps, large bumper with wide air dams and a pair of fog lamps. At the rear, the sedan gets wrap-around taillamps, large rear bumper with integrated reflectors, lip spoiler and chrome badges.
The new-generation Honda City is based on the company’s global design philosophy “EXCITING H!!!” The vehicle carries ‘sleek crossmotion’ exterior and “layered floating cockpit’ interior. It is equipped with large headlamps, chrome finished door handles, chrome grille, alloy wheels, sunroof and fog lamps. The side profile gets aerodynamic creases and electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn blinkers. The company has increased the ground clearance of the vehicle to 165mm, which is more than sufficient to drive it through Indian streets.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz’s cabin gets clutter-free design with premium quality dashboard. The sedan gets features like keyless entry and start, Bluetooth streaming with telephony, automatic retractable ORVMs, Reversing camera and navigation system. It features the segment-first touchscreen infotainment system. The steering wheel comes with buttons for audio and telephony. The faux-wood and aluminium inserts give it a premium feel.
