Mahindra KUV100 mini SUV is the first mass offering from the home-grown automaker that targets young SUV enthusiasts. The vehicle stands tall, and looks like a contemporary hatch with SUV-ish elements. Since the carmaker has launched the vehicle within affordable price range and highly efficient mFlacon engines, we can safely say that it has what it takes to attract people looking for an entry-level utility vehicle. Though, there remains a doubt whether Mahindra’s new mini SUV is able to withstand Hyundai’s highly successful Grand 10 hatchback.

Similar to typical Mahindra SUV, the all-new KUV100 looks rugged and aggressive. With tall and wide stances, the vehicle offers a commanding road presence. This will certainly help the carmaker attract target buyers. The car also gets the Scorpio-inspired radiator grille, sunglass headlamps with LED DRLs and square wheel arches, Chevrolet Beat-look alike door handles, a curvy roofline and electrical ORVMs. The vehicle is equipped with 14-inch wheels wrapped with 185/65 R14 tyres. The overall dimensions of the vehicle measure 3,675mm (length), 1,715mm (width with door side cladding) and 1,635mm (height). It has a wheelbase of 2,385mm, and a ground clearance of 170mm. This mini SVU is available in 7 exciting color options – Pearl White, Fiery Orange, Designer Grey, Aquamarine, Dazzling Silver and Midnight Black.

The Hyundai Grand i10 features a contemporary styling, and looks very young and sporty. With hexagonal grille, swept-back headlights and neat creases, it appears as a mature version of the old i10. The vehicle’s side profile gets black cladding strip along the doors and bold shoulder lines that draw attention towards its stretched dimensions. While the top-end variant rides on 14-inch (clean silver and optional diamond cut) alloy wheels, the lower variant gets steel wheels as standard offering. The overall length, width and height of the hatchback measure 3,765mm, 1,660mm and 1,520mm respectively. While the wheelbase stands at 2,425mm, the ground clearance measures 165mm.

Available in with two seating options – 5-seater and 6-seater – Mahindra’s all-new mini SUV offers a spacious cabin with ample legroom for front and rear seats passengers. It looks sporty with dual-tone interior theme, piano black finish dashboard, leather upholstery, faux wood, and silver accents on steering wheel, instrument cluster and centre console. The vehicle also comes with a wide array of comfort and safety features such as a touchscreen audio system with steering mounted controls, Scorpio-inspired instrument console and steering wheel, power windows, etc. As far as safety features are concerned, the base variant gets ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) as standard fitment along with the optional dual airbags. It offers a boot space of 243-litres, which is expandable up to 473-litres.

The Hyundai Grand i10 is one of the most feature-loaded and premium cars in its segment. Its interior quality is superb, and it’s great ergonomically. What add more to its interior appeal are dashboard with black and toffee-beige plastics, leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear-lever with metal finish and air-con controls with knurled finish. The seats are quite comfortable, and offer decent thigh support. The vehicle also gets dual-tone interior, blue illumination, instrument panel with MID, tachometer, warning & indicators, power steering, power windows and other equipment. While features like 2-DIN audio system with Aux-in, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, electrically adjustable ORVMs, height adjustable driver seat and rear seat headrests are available only on the higher variants. It has a boot capacity of 256-litres.

Mahindra KUV100 Vs Hyundai Grand i10 – Engine & Transmission

Powering the Mahindra’s mini SUV is an all-new mFalcon engine lineup – a 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 petrol and a 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 diesel – that is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. While the former is claimed to offer 82bhp of power at 5,500rpm with 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the latter is good for 77bhp at 3,750rpm and 190Nm at 1,750rpm – 2,250rpm. This mini SUV comes with the 2WD drivetrain system. Mahindra claims that the KUV100, with all-new mFalcon engines, returns fuel efficiency of 18.23kmpl (petrol) and 25.32kmpl (diesel). This also makes the KUV100 diesel the most frugal SUV of the country.

The Hyundai Grand i10 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version is powered by a 1.2-litre KappaVVT engine that churns out a maximum power of 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. On the other hand, the diesel version derives its power from a 1.1-litre U2 CRDi motor that produces 70bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 160Nm of torque between 1,500rpm – 2,750rpm. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
