Honda BR-V compact SUV has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This compact SUV is the third product to be developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co. Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand. In India, the BRV is being manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara facility. The Honda BR-V will rival the Renault DusterHyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross crossover. Though, it will face a tough competition from the Renault Duster, since both the vehicles come with petrol and diesel engine options, and fall in the same price bracket.

Honda BRV vs Renault Duster: Engine Specifications & Mileage

The Honda BR-V compact SUV shares its engine lineup with the City sedan. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, with Zig-zag piston coating pattern and CCS system, pushes out a maximum power of 117bhp against 145Nm of torque. This power mill is claimed offer high fuel efficiency and sporty performance. Power for the diesel variant comes from a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that offers 99bhp of power along with 200Nm of torque. The diesel mill returns a claimed mileage of 21.9kmpl (best-in-class), and the petrol mill delivers 15.4kmpl (MT) and 16kmpl (AT).

On the other hand, the Renault Duster is available with two engine options- a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.5-litre K9K diesel. While the petrol engine is capable of producing 102bhp and 145Nm of torque, the oil burner is tuned for two states of power – 84bhp/200Nm and 108bhp/248Nm. The Duster petrol offers a fuel efficiency of 13.6kmpl, while the diesel version offers 19.6kmpl.

The Honda BRV is a seven-seater SUV, which is basically a SUV-ish version of the Mobilio MPV. The overall length, width and height of the compact SUV measure 4,453mm – 4,456mm, 1,735mm and 1,666mm respectively. It has a large wheelbase of 2,662mm that makes it the most spacious car in its segment. While, the class-leading ground clearance of 210mm makes it easier to drive through rugged Indian terrains.

On the other hand, the Renault Duster is 4,315mm long, 1,822mm wide and 1,695mm tall compact SUV. With a wheelbase of 2,673mm, the vehicle offers an ample cabin space for five adult passengers. It has a ground clearance of 205mm. Clearly, the BR-V is longer, higher and more spacious than the Duster.

The Honda BR-V offers a spacious cabin to accommodate seven adults comfortably. The second row seats come with a one-touch tumble feature, while the third row gets 50:50 split seats. As standard, the vehicle gets projector headlamps, fog lamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, air-conditioning, rear AC vents, a multi-information display, chrome-finished door handles and side protectors. Its flared wheel arches have been fitted to 16-inch alloy wheels that shod with 195/60 series tyres. For passenger safety, the vehicle offers dual airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), VSA, Hill start Assist and others.

Talking about Renault Duster, the SUV comes equipped with a dual-tone interior with good quality upholstery, illuminated instrument cluster with multi-information screen, leather wrapped steering wheel, multi-functional steering wheel and MEDIANAV infotainment system. On the exterior, the SUV gets a large chrome grille, silver skid plate, stylish large-sized headlamps, fog lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, body coloured bumpers, ORVMs and door handles. As far as safety features are concerned, the SUV is equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start Assist, EPS, anti-slip regulation and reverse parking sensors.
