Honda BR-V compact SUV will face a tough competition from cars like Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Here we bring you a specifications comparison between these three competitors.

Honda Cars India (HCI) has witnessed an excellent response for its new range of vehicles that includes Amaze, City and the Jazz, and the credit goes to Honda’s new 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine and aggressive pricing. The company is now offering products in almost all popular segments, including the most competitive compact SUV segment.

In order to further increase its market share, Honda has rolled out its next big product – the Honda BR-V Compact SUV – priced between Rs 8.75 lakh – Rs 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price, the Honda’s new compact SUV locks horn with cars like Renault DusterHyundai Creta and the Maruti S-Cross.

Honda BRV vs Hyundai Creta vs Maruti S Cross: Engine Specifications

The Honda BRV compact SUV is being offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. While the former generates a maximum power of 119bhp along with 145Nm of torque, the latter one offers 99bhp of power while yielding a peak torque of 200Nm.

Talking about Hyundai Creta, the compact SUV comes with three powertrain options – a 1.6-litre Dual VTVT petrol, a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel and a 1.6-litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel. The petrol mill is capable of producing 121bhp of power against 151Nm of torque. While the entry-level diesel motor offers 89bhp and 220Nm of torque, the 1.6L U2 CRDi unit is good enough for 126bhp and 259Nm of torque.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is available only with two diesel engine options; no gasoline version is on offer. The entry level variant is powered by a 1.3-litre MJD unit that develops 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Whereas, the 1.6L MJD diesel engine is capable of generating a maximum power of 118bhp along with 320Nm of torque.

Based on the versatile Brio platform, the Honda BR-V measures 4,453mm – 4,456mm in length, 1,735mm in width and 1,666mm in height. With a large wheelbase of 2,662mm, this compact SUV offers the most spacious cabin in its segment that can accomodate seven adult passengers. It has a class-leading ground clearance of 210mm that makes it more compatible for rough Indian terrains.

On the other hand, the Hyundai Creta is 4270mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,630mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,590mm. The ground clearance measures 183mm, which is relatively on lower side. Talking about the S-Cross crossover, this compact SUV measures 4,300mm, 1,756mm and 1,590mm in length, width and height respectively. It comes with a large wheelbase of 2,600mm, while the ground clearance stands at 180mm.

Clearly, the Honda BR-V is the longest and most spacious car in its league. It comes with seven-seat configuration with an extra third row seats. The ground clearance, too, is on higher side compared to the Creta and the S-Cross.

Despite being based on Brio platform, the Honda BR-V SUV gets an upmarket interior compared to its MPV sibling – the Mobilio. Features like steering wheel, cupholders and the gearshift indicators are picked from the Mobilio. While the centre console, new touchscreen audio system, dashboard and other elements are borrowed from the new Jazz. The vehicle also comes equipped with automatic climate control, rear AC vents, Bluetooth, multifunctional steering wheel and others comfort and connectivity fitments. The BR-V SUV looks like a jagged up Mobilio with the Honda CR-V-inspired styling. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to 16-inch alloy wheels. On the exterior, the car gets black projector headlamps, chrome grille, roof rails, LED taillights with C-shaped graphics, skid plates and ORVMs with integrated blinkers.

The Hyundai Creta is designed on Hyundai’s Fluidic Design Sculpture 2.0, and shares its design elements with the Santa Fe SUV. It looks very sporty and premium, and offers a commanding road presence. The compact SUV features aggressive bumper, chrome grille, fog lamps, stylish headlamps with silver inserts and integrated LED daytime running lamps, silver skid plates, muscular wheels arches fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated blinkers, roof mounted spoiler and stylish tail lamps. The Creta’s cabin shares several components with the Elite i20 hatchback. The vehicle is equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel, rear AC vents, automatic climate control and leather upholstery.

The Maruti S-Cross is basically a crossover based on the European SX4 hatchback (now discontinued). The front fascia of the compact SUV features a twin-slat chrome grille, silver skid plate, large headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, fog lamps and wide airdam. What add more to its sporty appeal are the black plastic cladding across the base and roof rails. At the rear, the crossover gets sharp tail-lamps, black cladding and aggressive bumper. Inside the cabin, the S-Cross gets brushed aluminum inserts and faux carbon fibre finish on layered dashboard. Features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth, leather upholstery, automatic climate control and reverse parking sensor with display are also on offer.
