SUVs are currently the most favoured vehicles in India. Every carmaker in India is vying to add a SUV to their product portfolio in a bid to benefit from the growing popularity of the segment. While there are many sub-categories within this space, pricing plays an important role in drawing a line between the volume products and the premium vehicles. That said, the compact segment and the sub-four meter SUVs are more in demand due to their affordable pricing, frugal engines and equipment level.
Last year, we witnessed launch of some of the new models along with facelifted versions and new-gen models of the existing cars and there is a lot planned for the coming years. Here is a look at the upcoming SUVs priced between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, slated to launch in the next two years.
First launched in 2012, Duster was the first successful model from Renault upon its return to India. The SUV enjoyed pinnacle until new options were introduced in the market. In a bid to overpower fierce competition in the segment, Duster will soon see a generation change. It is expected that the SUV will be longer than the current model. This implicates more space for the occupants seated inside the cabin. The SUV will reportedly receive comprehensive aesthetic updates and it is likely to take design inspiration from the Oroch lifestyle pickup that is retailed in Brazilian market.
One of the other prominent changes, expected to be seen on the SUV is the 7-seat configuration. This would bring the SUV on par with 7-seater SUVs in India like Honda BR-V. It is to be noted that Duster will continue to be available with 5-seat layout. There has been no confirmation from the company as far as the mechanicals are concerned, but it is expected that Duster could use the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines from the current model. For improved power output, the engines could be calibrated.
Expected Price – Rs 9 lakh – Rs 16 lakh
Expected Launch – 2017 (5-seater version)
