Earlier known as the hatchback hub, the Indian car market shifted gears to the utility space which is currently the hottest segment in the country. Attributed to roomy cabin, frugal engines and plethora of equipment, UVs have paved their way to zenith, claiming for a large share in the passenger vehicle segment. Sporting large proportions, the MPVs and SUVs are ideal for large Indian families.
In retrospect, there has been a constant rise in demand for the seven-seater MPVs/SUVs in India. While there are already several vehicles in this space, carmakers are prepping to roll-out new cars in a bid to benefit from the surge in demand. For those on a look out for spacious UVs, here is the list of upcoming seven-seater MPV and SUVs in India slated for launch in the next two years.
Based on VW’s MQB platform, Tiguan was showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. In terms of looks, it appears to be inspired by the VW Cross Coupe GTE. As for the India-bound model, it will reportedly be longer, wider, lighter and more spacious than the global model, currently on sale in overseas markets. To make it more desirable, the company will add several safety and comfort goodies.
In India, the 7-seater SUV will be available with four TSI petrol (123bhp, 148bhp, 177.5bhp and 217bhp) and four TDI diesel (113.4bhp, 148bhp, 184.4bhp and 236.7bhp) units. With the addition of start/stop technology and battery regeneration system, the engines are claimed to deliver 24% increased mileage as compared to the predecessor. The drive will sent to front wheels via a six-speed DSG unit. Additionally, the 4Motion all-wheel drivetrain system could be standard or optional on the higher trims.
Expected Launch – Late 2017 or Early 2018
Estimated Price Range – Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh
Engine Options – 4 TSI Petrol and 4 TDI Diesel
