Suzuki Gixxer 250 Expected India Launch, Price, Specs & Details

Suzuki GSX 250R red and black

Suzuki Gixxer 250cc motorcycle will come in both naked streetfighter and fully-faired versions.

Japanese two-wheeler automaker, Suzuki had unveiled the GSX 250R at the 2016 EICMA Motor Show in 2016. It was speculated that this motorcycle (could be called Suzuki Gixxer 250) will also mark the re-entry of Suzuki in quarter-litre segment of India; that didn’t happen. Instead, Suzuki is working on an all-new 250cc motorcycle for the Indian market. Scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2019, the new bike will be sold under Gixxer nameplate. We believe that this will be a great move to bring in the more powerful bikes considering the growing popularity of 200-250cc bikes in India. And just like the Gixxer 150cc, the company has an option to launch the 250cc model too in both naked and fully-faired versions. This will also help the company rival the KTM Duke 200, Yamaha FZ250, KTM RC200 and the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 250.

Suzuki will first launch the streetfighter version of the Gixxer 250, which will be followed by the faired Gixxer 250 SF in the second half of 2019. The India-spec model will receive a single-cylinder unit with a 4-valve SOHC layout. This engine will be benefitted with a vertically stacked oil-cooling system instead of a liquid-cooling one, and fuel injection technology. For people not in the know, this isn’t the first time Suzuki is entering the quarter-litre segment. The company earlier had Inazuma, which failed to generate volume for the company due to its high price. The product otherwise was really capable. And now with the huge success of the Gixxer brand, it won’t be that tough for the Japanese bikemaker to sell a 250cc bike under the same brand.

The India-spec Gixxer 250 will be based on the existing Gixxer 150 frame, which ensures greater localisation and aggressive pricing. The global model is based on Suzuki’s GSX platform. Both naked and fully-faired versions will be launched; first will be the naked streetfighter. This model will share design cues from the premium Suzuki GSX-S750 and the GSX-S1000, which are already on sale in India.
