Kawasaki Estrella Comes to India for R&D Purposes

Kawasaki Estrella BJ250 launch in India

Kawasaki Estrella BJ250 features classic seat with ribbed padding, circular headlamp, old-school fuel tank, wire-spoke wheels and dual analog instrument cluster.

The Japanese motorcycle maker Kawasaki doesn’t have a cruiser in the Indian market as of now, but that might change in near future. The reason we say this is because of the fact that the company has recently imported a unit of Kawasaki Estrella aka Kawasaki BJ250 for R&D purposes. If launched, the Estrella will take on the Royal Enfield’s cruise range. The Eicher-Group owned motorcycle brand Royal Enfield doesn’t have a genuine rival as of now.

The Kawasaki Estrella surely is a looker thank to its classic styling. Some of the most exciting design elements of the Kawasaki BJ250 are – classic seat with ribbed padding, circular headlamp, old-school fuel tank, wire-spoke wheels and dual analog instrument cluster. In Japan the Estrella is available in three colour options – Candy Crimson Red, Pearl Alpine White and Metallic Flat Spark Black.

Powering the Kawasaki Estrella is a single-cylinder, air-cooled, long-stroke engine that is claimed to offer strong low and mid-range torque. Mated to a 5-speed transmission, this engine churns out a maximum power output of 17bhp at 7,500rpm and a peak torque of 18Nm at 5000rpm. The 250cc cruiser’s single and light handling chassis offer good ride comfort.

Though the company brings most of its bikes as completely built-up units (CBUs), the company might bring the Estrella via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route to keep its cost under check.

Since the vehicle has been recently brought to India for R&D purposes, the company hasn’t said revealed its plans of launching the Kawasaki Estrella in India. And even if it does, it won’t be launched before 2017.
