Hero Splendor iSmart 3S – Everything You Want to Know

Hero Splendor iSmart rear-side profile

The first-generation Splendor was launched in the Indian two-wheeler market in 1994 under Hero-Honda badge. Despite being on sale for years, the Splendor is, still, fetching huge volumes for the company. That said, the bike hasn’t changed much over the years. Though a major change was given to the bike in 2015 when the company rolled out the Splendor with the i3S (idle stop and start system) technology. According to Hero MotoCorp, this innovative technology helps the new Splendor iSmart to achieve better fuel economy.

What came as a shocker for most people was the iSmart’s claimed mileage figure of 102.5km/l. The company faced criticism from its competitors and customers, who alleged Hero MotoCorp to show the misleading figure. Though, Hero MotoCorp made it clear that these figures were certified by iCAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology) – a govt agency. Whatever the reality behind these high figures is, one thing is pretty clear that the Splendor iSmart is one of the most frugal bikes that we have in India.

The Hero Splendor iSmart features an aerodynamic front cowl, matte black exhaust silencer, stylish rear grab rails, new seat texture and all-weather power start option. The commuter offers an upright riding position which provides comfortable riding experience in city. The stylish fuel tank features a retro-looking fuel filler lid. To offer premium feel, the bike has body coloured split grab lid and saddle with red stitching. The bike has an old-school box-type tail section. The overall build quality is pretty decent.

Hero Splendor iSmart side profile

The new Hero Splendor iSmart is powered by a refined, four-stroke, 97.2cc, single-cylinder and air-cooled engine paired to an electric and a kick starter. This engine is capable of producing 7.9bhp of power at 7,500rpm and 8.04Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. Power is transmitted to roads via a four-speed gearbox with shifting in the all-up pattern seamlessly. Its i3S technology helps the bike start and stop the engine to prevent fuel loss. The engine automatically starts once the driver engages the clutch. There is a cut-off switch positioned above the electric starter, which further helps in reducing fuel consumption.
