Yamaha, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, is betting big on performance motorcycle segment for the Indian market. After launching the YZF-R1 and the R1M, the Japanese maker is now planning to launch the new YZF-R25 in India. This quarter-litre performance bike was globally unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. It is one of the most awaited bikes of this year. The company has already imported few units of the bike for R&D and testing purpose. The R25 will directly rival against the likes of the Honda CBR 250R, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC series.
Powering the Yamaha R25 is a 250cc, liquid-cooled, in-line, four-stroke, two-cylinder motor and is paired to a six-speed gearbox. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 36bhp at 12,000rpm and 22.1Nm of peak torque at 10,000rpm. The Yamaha YZF-R25 is based on a new tubular frame instead of the perimeter frame (used for R15). It is expected to deliver about 30-35kmpl of mileage. The bike features an all-new high-compression (11:6:1) engine that uses Yamaha’s DiSil (Die Casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinders. This helps in achieving excellent heat dissipation and lighter weight. This technology has been used for the first time in a twin-cylinder-engined bike.
The Yamaha YZF-R25’s styling is inspired from the YZF-M1 – Yamaha’s Moto GP bike. It is expected to offer an excellent riding and handling experience. The bike features a dual headlamp setup with a centrally mounted pilot lamp. It also gets a digital speedometer with a white back-light and LED tail lamp. There is an air duct in-between the front lamps, which looks identical to the one found in M1 MotoGP. Its shift indicator is reminiscent to the YZF-R1.
