Yamaha India has launched the much-awaited YZF-R3 ‘supersports’ bike at Rs. 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Unveiled at the EICMA in November 2014, the Yamaha R3 is basically a slightly more powerful sibling of the R25. The Yamaha R3, that will take on the fast growing quarter-litre performance bike segment, will be imported to India as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit from Indonesia.

Styling
The Yamaha R3 looks largely identical to the R25, but there are subtle changes made to the former to give it a slightly different appearance. Both the models share the same body panels, diamond type frame and the dimensions. Sharing the styling cues with the YZF-R Series, the R3 comes equipped with dual headlamps, stubby silencer, 10-spoke alloy wheels, digital-analogue console and sharp tail.
The bike is claimed to be fitted with racing-derived features such as direct drive camshaft, low-friction pistons, forged pistons and carburized conrods. Dimensionally, the Y3 measures 2.0m long, 720mm wide and 1.1m tall. It weighs 169kgs, and has a wheelbase of 1.3m. The ground clearance of 160mm makes it quite compatible for rough Indian roads.
Colors
The Yamaha R3 is available in two paint options: Race Blue (Combination of Blue and White) and Midnight Black (Black with Red highlights).

Power for the Yamaha YZF-R3 comes from a 321cc, in-line, 4-stroke, twin-cylinder engine, which is capable to produce 41.4bhp of power at 10,750rpm and 29.6Nm of torque at 9,000rpm. This engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission that drives power to the rear wheels of the bike via a chain drive. Yamaha claims that the R3 can achieve 0-60kmph in 2.89seconds, and 0-100kmph in 6seconds. It has an electronic speed limit of 187kmph, and a fuel tank capacity of 14-litres.
