Volkswagen has introduced TSI BlueMotion modification version of its compact car- the Polo. It previews that in this hatchback it is “offering its fuel-saving technology for the first time in conjunction with a petrol engine”. Powering the Polo BlueMotion is the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged (TSI) motor that is capable of producing a top power output of 95PS and a peak torque of 160Nm. This variant accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 10.5 seconds, and attains a top speed of 190kmph.
The vehicle gets customary BlueMotion modifications. It features a low rolling resistance tires, slightly modified aerodynamics and lowered ride height. Mechanically, the hatchback sports start-stop system, regenerative braking, gear change indicator and longer gear ratios in upper transmission stages.
The Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion TSI achieved an impressive fuel economy of 24.39 kmpl, which is around 1.13kmpl more than the standard 1.0 TSI model. It is quite early to comment whether this version would make its way to the Indian market or not; however, the growing demand for fuel efficient vehicles could force the manufacturer to launch this model in the future. The VW Polo TSI BlueMotion is priced at 15,925 EUR (Rs. 12.31 lakhs).
