Unveiled- Honda Vezel to be named as XR-V SUV in China

Japanese car manufacturer Honda has unveiled the Chinese version of the Honda Vezel (aka HR-V in European nations) at the 2014 Chengdu Motor Show. Christened as ‘Honda XR-V’, the vehicle is likely to go on sale in China in 2015-16 and will compete against the likes of Hyundai ix25, Nissan Juke & others.

The Honda XR-V Crossover looks slightly different from the standard model, and is equipped with more aggressive styling elements. At the front, the vehicle features smaller chrome lined grille flanked by different looking headlamps. The bumper gets black colour guard, wide air dam, turn indicators and new fog lamp assembly.

At the back, the crossover gets newly designed bumper and tailgate. The tail lamps are sleeker and aggressive than the global model. The side profile has aggressive creases running across the length. Its flared wheel arches have been fitted to new alloy wheels. Inside, the Honda XR-V features the similar dashboard design; however, the instrument console is relatively new. Moreover, the AC vents is now in circular shape instead of rectangular found in global model.

The Chinese SUV is 20mm shorter than the Vezel crossover, measuring 4,275mm in length, 1,770mm in width and 1,605mm in height, and it has a large wheelbase of 2,610mm. It will be offered in two petrol engines- a 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre model.

It was speculated to be launched in the Indian car market, but the Japanese manufacturer is aiming to launch a compact SUV based on the versatile Brio platform. The Brio based compact SUV is likely to go on sale in the country by early 2016.
