Toyota Kirloskar Motor is readying the next generation Fortuner SUV, which is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2016. In order to keep things fresh, the company, yesterday, introduced the top-spec Fortuner 4×4 AT in the market. Now, the carmaker has added an affordable variant of the Fortuner which is propelled by a 2.5-litre diesel engine.

The Fortuner 2.5L is only available with TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Sportivo package, which includes a new dual-tone radiator grille, side skirts, new body graphics, rear spoiler, etc. As standard features, the SUV gets leather seats, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, multi-functional steering wheel with audio controls, audio system with touchscreen interface, climate control, rear camera, dual airbags, halogen bulbs instead of HID, etc.
Under the hood is the same 2494cc turbo-diesel engine that also powers the Innova MPV; however, power and torque values are comparatively on higher side. It is capable of producing a top power output of 142bhp at 3400rpm and a peak torque of 342Nm between 1600-2800rpm. This engine is paired to either five-speed manual or an optional five-speed automatic gearbox driving the power to rear wheels. As a reminder, the top-spec model is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that is good for 168bhp and 360Nm of top torque.
