Tata Motors has finally launched the much-anticipated Zest compact sedan in the Indian car market. With the Zest, the homegrown auto major is aiming to revive its lost market share in the growing sub-4 metre segment which once it started with Indigo CS Manza. The Tata Zest compact sedan is priced at Rs. 4.64 lakh for petrol and Rs. 5.64 lakh for diesel (ex-showroom, Delhi). This compact sedan is equipped with a couple of capable engine options, high end features and comfortable cabin.
The Tata Zest compact sedan is available in nine variants- 4 petrol and 5 diesel. The petrol versions are XE, XM, XMS and XT while the diesel variants include XE, XM, XMA, XMS and the XT. Tata Zest compact sedan is available in six exciting exterior shades >> buzz blue, pristine white, platinum silver, sky grey, venetian red and dune beige.
The Tata Zest compact sedan is available in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol version of the sedan is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron engine which is an all-new turbocharged motor. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 89bhp and a peak torque of 140Nm. The Revotron engine also offers multi-drive modes to buyers- Sports, Economy and City. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Zest compact sedan is also the country’s first ever diesel powered model to feature automated manual transmission (AMT). The oil burner is the Fiat’s 1.3-litre multi-jet engine that offers two states of tunes- 74bhp and 89bhp. The base variant develops 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque while the more powerful multi-jet engine produces 89bhp of power and 200Nm of top torque. Based on the thoroughly modified X1 platform, the Tata Zest compact sedan is 3995mm long, 1706mm wide and 1570mm high, and it has a large wheelbase of 2470mm. The petrol version comes with a large ground clearance of 175mm; however, the diesel models get 165mm of ground clearance.
The Zest sedan is designed with inputs from Tata’s design studios in Pune, Coventry (UK) and Turin (Italy). The front fascia of the compact sedan gets large chrome grille, flanked by projector headlamps. The large bumper features double slat air intake and triangular-shaped fog lamps on either side. The side profile has aerodynamic creases running across the length, while the flared wheel arches have been fitted to 15-inch alloys. At the back, the Zest has wraparound tail lamps and chrome strip over the boot lid.
Inside the cabin, the Zest compact sedan is loaded with several high end features. The vehicle interior styling looks much more appealing than its competitors. It features dual tone (Black and optional colour) scheme, silver inserts, newly designed instrument cluster with integrated multi-information display, new AC vents and multi-function three-spoke steering wheel.
The Tata Zest compact sedan features EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted System) with active return function and speed sensitive power steering developed by ZF. There is an advanced infotainment system such as Harman infotainment system with MapmyIndia navigation, 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB, AUX-in, smart voice recognition, etc.
