Tata Aria facelift in works; to get Automatic variant

New 2014 Tata Aria facelift

Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker seems aggressive with its product strategy for the highly competitive market. In order to regain its lost market share, the company is planning to launch a series of new cars and facelifts of existing cars in the market. The company has recently launched the Bolt hatchback, and is now readying two new cars under its Kite project. Moreover, the company is also working on two SUVs- one compact SUV (based on Nexon) and other will be Toyota Fortuner rival. Adding to it, the company will also introduce the updated Safari Storme facelift this year. Interestingly, the maker is also preparing the Aria facelift (Codenamed Eagle) which is likely to be launched in the market next year. Moreover, the automatic variant of the car is also expected to hit the market this year.

Last year, Tata introduced the updated Aria with slight upgrades in the form of new headlamps, body graphics, etc. The mechanics of the car remains unchanged; however, the 2.2-litre diesel engine was tuned for better performance. The new model will get cosmetic upgrades, which is expected to get an automatic transmission version. Interestingly, the automatic variant of the SUV will be offered on the top-end Pride 4×4 model. Interestingly, Mahindra is also planning to introduce an automatic variant of the XUV500.

Tata Motors showcased the Aria Automatic at the 2014 Indonesia International Motor Show. The vehicle was powered by the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel unit that produces slightly higher power output- 156PS and 400Nm instead of the 150PS and 320Nm offered with manual version.
