Report- New Skoda Fabia is not India-bound

Czech auto maker, Skoda will unveil the new 2015 Fabia hatchback at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. It was speculated that Skoda India will launch the new Fabia in the Indian car market by mid-2014. According to IAB report, the company has dropped the plans of launching the newly formulated hatch for India.

Moreover, reports are also coming that Skoda India is working on a new hatchback. The new model will be based on the Rapid sedan and is likely to be launched in the market in 2015-16; however, nothing concrete on the same has been revealed by the manufacturer.

Speaking to Indian Autos Blog, Mr. Pawel Szuflak, Director for Sales and Marketing for Skoda Auto India Private Limited, said, “In India we don’t plan at this moment to come with the new generation Fabia. We have taken a call almost two years ago, that our first model or most successful model (sales wise) will be the Skoda Rapid. We’re keeping this strategy. At this moment, the new Fabia you see in Europe, we do not plan to launch this car in India”.

Skoda India is currently focusing on its top-selling Rapid sedan. The company is planning to launch the Rapid facelift in the Indian market on September 30, 2014. The new Skoda Fabia is based on the thoroughly modified PQ25 platform. It is claimed to be more spacious and feature rich than its predecessor. Moreover, the new model is equipped with 17 ‘Simply Clever’ features, nine of which are new. It comes with a segment leading 300-litres of boot space, which can be extended up to 1,150-litres by folding the rear seats. The new model will be offered in 4 petrol and 3 diesel engines.
