Mahindra & Mahindra will launch two new sub-4 metre SUVs in the country in 2015. The first product to come will be the S101 compact SUV, followed by the U301 SUV by 2015 end. Set to target the B segment hatchbacks, the compact SUV is likely to be the cheapest SUV in the Indian car market. If media reports are to be believed, the company is planning to price this vehicle very competitively at Rs. 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
This product is also likely to get plethora of comfort and convenience features. The company is aiming to heavily localize this SUV to attract budget conscious Indian buyers looking for spacious and feature loaded vehicles. If company failed to price this vehicle around this estimated price, the vehicle is likely to face stiff competition with the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming compact SUVs from Volkswagen, Honda and Tata.
Interestingly, the Mahindra S101 compact SUV will offer a seating capacity for six adults in 3+3 layout. The company will offer a bench type front row seats to accommodate three passengers including driver. The gear shifter will be positioned on the dashboard to create more space. It will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The gasoline version is likely to get the all-new 1.2L unit that is co-developed by Mahindra and SsangYong engineers. Its oil burner is likely to be the 1.5-litre motor that also powers the Quanto.
