Maruti Suzuki India is aiming to launch a series of new cars in the Indian car market. The company is gearing up to launch the Ciaz mid-sized sedan and the Swift facelift this festive season. MSI is also planning to introduce Dzire facelift and the S-Cross SX4 crossover in the country. Adding to it, the next generation sporty Swift hatchback would go on sale in India in 2015-16.
If media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki is working on a sedan based on the next generation 2016 Swift hatchback. The Swift Dzire compact sedan is based on the current Swift platform; however, the next saloon to be based on the 2016 Swift would be a more premium offering. The new sedan is likely to be positioned between the current Dzire compact sedan and the Ciaz.
The Maruti Swift Dzire is basically an Indian-specific product while the next-gen saloon would be a global product. Under the bonnet, the new 2016 Swift based sedan would get the same 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel and the 1.2-litre K Series motor. The vehicle would also get an automatic transmission.
The next model would come as a replacement for the SX4 saloon. The vehicle is expected to be locally manufactured in the Indian car market. This sedan would compete against the likes of Toyota Etios and Chevrolet Sail.
