We reported earlier that Mahindra is planning to launch three new sub-compact SUVs in the Indian car market in next 2 years. The first sub-4 metre SUV to hit Indian market will be the new Quanto. Codenamed as U215, the new model will go on sale in the country by early 2015.
Mahindra launched the Quanto SUV in 2012, which had generated a good interest of buyers. However, with an increase in competition, the buyers’ interest shifted from this compact SUV to modern looking SUVs including Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport.
Mahindra is also planning to give a major facelift to the Scorpio, which is scheduled to go on sale this festive season. The new Quanto is reportedly in design phase. The vehicle will get a comprehensive makeover to offer a more competitive product in its segment. Mahindra is also working on a micro SUV, dubbed as S101 which is scheduled to be launched in India by 2015 end. Moreover, a sub-4 metre SUV, codenamed U301, is also under development. This SUV will be offered in both compact and 7-seater version, and it is stated as the possible replacement for Bolero.
If media reports are to be believed, the new Quanto would feature an all-new design with more rugged looks. The company will ditch the current boxy design and will be offered in five seater version. Mahindra might also add new three-pot motor to this SUV to provide better fuel efficiency and value for money product.
