Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is working on a new generation Innova MPV and the Fortuner SUV, which are scheduled to make its debut by 2016-17. According to IAB, the company is also developing a new range of diesel engines which will power these cars. Moreover, the diesel variant of the new Innova is said to receive an automatic transmission gearbox that is missing in the current model.
According to media reports, the new Toyota Innova will be based on the ladder-frame setup; however, the new models are likely to feature the all new platform named as Toyota New Global Architecture. With the use of TNGA, the company will be able to share components among cars which make them price competitive.
Launched in 2005, the Toyota Innova has been the country’s top selling MPV accounting for around 45 percent TKM sales. However, the vehicle is now facing stiff competition in the Indian market. Ever since it entered into the Indian market, the company hasn’t given meaningful update to this model. Last year, the company introduced updated MPV with a new grille, front bumper and rear reflectors.
