New-generation Chevrolet Beat will hit the Indian shores in the third week of July 2017. The launch information comes from a leaked official memorandum. Unlike the global version, which is designed on a new architecture, the one coming to India will continue to sit on the existing M300 platform. This hints that the new Chevrolet Beat 2017 won’t see comprehensive mechanical updates. The current 1.0L diesel and 1.2L petrol engines, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, will continue to power the car. Rumour has it that GM might use the downsized version of the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder EcoTech unit to power the petrol version of the car.
For 2017 model year, the Beat hatch will see comprehensive cosmetic and features updates. Major changes will be visible on the face of the car featuring new grille with chrome accents, revised headlamps and fog lamps, pronounced lower lip and pinched bonnet. Cabin, too, will be revamped with dual-tone interior theme, chrome garnish around the HVAC vents and matte silver centre console. First launched in 2008, the Chevrolet Beat had smack bang the spot between B1-B2 hatchback segments in India. With funky styling, efficient engines and affordable pricing, the hatchback begum generating decent volume for the American carmaker. The hatchback had received diesel engine in 2011, and undergone a major facelift in 2014. In the current scenario, when the hatchback segment got fierce with the launch of new rivals (like Tata Tiago), the new-generation of the Beat might help carmaker revive the faded sales of the car.

The leaked scan of an official memo confirms that the new-generation Beat will go on sale in India in the third week of July 2017. While the exact launch date is yet to be revealed, GM hasn’t confirmed anything on the same. We will update you as soon as the company announces it.

With an aim to take on rivals like Tata Tiago and new Hyundai Grand i10, GM will surely play a fair pricing game. The entry-level petrol of the hatchback might come with a price tag of Rs 4.20 lakh, the diesel variants might cost between Rs 5 lakh – Rs 6.50 lakh. Power sources for the 2017 Beat will be the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder XSDE diesel and 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder S-TEC II petrol motor. On the current model, the former delivers 56bhp at 4,000rpm with 150Nm of torque at 1,750rpm and the latter one makes 77bbhp at 6,200rpm and 106.5Nm at 4,400rpm. The hatchback’s new-gen model might also receive a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which is likely to be the downsized version of the Spark’s 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder motor. In terms of fuel efficiency, the 2017 Beat will be more capable than the current model. While the existing one offers 15.7kmpl (petrol) and 21.2kmpl (diesel), the new version might return a mileage around 17kmpl (petrol) and 25kmpl (diesel).

Chevy will introduce a new Orange shade on the 2017 Beat lineup. The hatchback will also continue to come in a choice of seven colours – Sandrift Grey, Caviar Black, Cocktail Green, Linen Beige, Summit White, Super Red and Switch Blade Silver.

The overall dimensions of the 2017 Chevy Beat will remain unchanged. The hatchback will continue to measure 3,640mm in length, 1,595mm in width and 1,520mm in height. It will sit on 2,375mm of wheelbase, and stands on 175mm of ground clearance.

As mentioned above, the India-spec new Beat will continue to be based on the current M300 platform. The front fascia of the hatch will undergo major changes taking inspiration from the Chevrolet Spark. Design elements such as new headlamps, new grille with chrome accents and revised fog lamps give a more aggressive appeal to the car. The pinched hood and pronounced lower lip further mark a difference. There will be new side creases and lines, while the alloy set will remain unchanged. The rear design will be revived with new reflectors, re-designed bumper and Beat Activ inspired tail lamps.
New Chevrolet Beat 2017 Interior
Unlike the current Beat’s cabin that has single tone colour theme with silver inserts around three-spoke steering wheel and dashboard, the Chevrolet Beat 2017 will have dual tone (beige and black) interior and dashboard. The car will also gain a new instrument cluster with chrome accents and centre console with larger HVAC vents with chrome surrounding. Major highlight will be a new 7-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system that is most likely to be reserved for the top-spec model.
Material quality might also see an improvement. The features that the 2017 Beat is likely to retain are instrument cluster (analog speedometer and digital pod for tachometer) and three-spoke steering wheel with mounted control buttons. The new-gen model will also have enough storage space to offer such as glove-box, cup-holders on centre console, and a utility hole on the centre console. Since there will be no change in vehicle’s dimensions, the third row seat could remain congested for three adults.
