Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up to launch the GLA crossover in the country in the month of September. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the GLA crossover would be priced around Rs. 30 Lakhs. The BMW X1 AND Audi Q3 competitor has already been spotted couple of times on Indian roads during its test rounds. We believe that Mercedes-Benz’s entry into the crossover or small SUV segment is quite late which is currently dominated by Audi Q3.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover will come in two variants- GLA 200 CDI and the GLA 200 Sport. Adding to it, the company would introduce the AMG variant of the crossover; however, this variant will come by early 2015. The company dealers have started accepting pre-orders at a token amount in range of Rs. 50,000 – 2,00,000. The deliveries are promised to be given either in the month of September or by October.
Based on the A-Class platform, the Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover will come in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The GLA200 is the petrol version, which will be powered by the 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, direct injection engine. This engine is capable of developing a top power of 156PS and 250Nm of peak torque. This gasoline model does 0-100kmph in just 8.9 seconds and hits a top speed of 250kmph. The oil burner is the new 2.1-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 136PS and 300Nm of torque. This model accelerates to 100kmph from rest in just 10 seconds. Both the engines will be paired to 7G-DCT automatic transmission with dual clutch setup.
