We reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki is contemplating a premium hatchback codenamed as ‘YRA’ for the Indian car market. This global premium hatchback will be positioned above the Swift hatch, and has already been spotted several times during its test rounds in Europe.
Set to rival the new Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Skoda Fabia and others in the league, the YRA is likely to make its global debut next year. If media reports are to be believed, the vehicle would also come in India at the same time giving the importance of our market for Suzuki.
Motorbash reports that the company has already started importing parts of the YRA premium to India for R&D and testing purpose. The development work for the new hatchback is also likely to commence soon. The engine specification of the car is already out. The gasoline model is expected to get the new 1.0-litre K10C turbocharged motor.
The oil burner, reportedly, will be the same 1.3-litre Multi-Jet motor that also powers the Swift twins and others. It is also likely to get the more powerful 90PS VGT versions of the diesel engine. For instance, Maruti is preparing for the launch of Swift and Dzire facelifts.
