It has been a while since Maruti Suzuki has been testing its much-awaited premium hatchback in Europe and India. Ahead of its official unveiling next year, the vehicle has been spotted again. This time, the clear exterior pictures of the hatchback has been revealed on the interweb. Codenamed YRA, the vehicle will be a global product and will be positioned above the Swift hatchback.
Going by the pictures, we can clearly say that the front fascia of the hatchback shares its design cues with the Swift hatchback. At the back, the hatchback resembles the Fiat Palio and VW Polo; however, Suzuki’s elements are clearly visible. The front fascia of the hatchback gets a V-Shaped honeycomb grille which is flanked by sweptback headlamps. Its bumper has wide air intakes and simple fog lamps.
The rear end of the hatchback sports a notchback like bootlid, and is very simple in design. Also visible are the roof mounted spoiler, simple headlamps, chrome strip over bootlid and stylish licensing plate enclosure on bumper. Its low roofline adds to its sporty characteristic.
The pictures are mix of entry level and top-end models. While the top-spec model has stylish alloys, chrome door handles and ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, the entry spec model has steel wheels with wheel caps. This hatchback will rival against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and Volkswagen Polo.
In India, the YRA is expected to be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. The petrol versions are likely to get new 1.0-litre turbocharged unit, 1.2L petrol and the 1.4L unit, while the oil burner is likely to be the 1.3L Multi-jet motor. The company is also speculated to get the downsized version of the 1.6L MJD- the 1.5-litre unit.
