Mahindra S101 compact SUV

Mahindra will launch the much-awaited, all-new sub-compact SUV (Codenamed S101) next year. The company has revealed engine lineup for the compact SUV which are currently under development stages. The diverse range of engine will power future compact cars, and are co-developed by Mahindra and SsangYong.

Mahindra & Mahindra is developing seven engines based on a common platform, which includes various displacements, configuration and fuel types (Petrol & Diesel). The engine line-up comprises of 1.2-litre, 1.6-litre and 1.5-litre petrol & diesel units, and a smaller 1.0-litre petrol motor.

New engine range will be used in Mahindra and its fully owned Korean brand SsangYong future offerings. The upcoming Ssangyong X100 will present the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol and diesel units; however, this model will not make its way to Indian market. The S101 compact SUV, due for 2015 end launch, will mark the debut of new 1.2-litre petrol and diesel units. The petrol unit is likely to be naturally aspirated motor, just like 1.2L i-VTEC, and is expected to develop around 80PS of power.

The S101 sub-compact SUV will not feature the new 1.5-litre diesel plant, and this engine would see daylight by late 2016 or 2017.  We expect this engine would power the next generation Scorpio (due for launch in 2017) or next generation Bolero SUV.
