Highly localized new Skoda Rapid coming in 2015-16

Skoda Rapid

Skoda India recently launched the Yeti facelift, and is now gearing up to launch the updated Rapid sedan in the Indian car market on September 30, 2014. Adding to it, the Czech automaker is planning to increase the localization levels on its top-selling, the Rapid C-Segment sedan. According to media reports, a heavily localized Rapid saloon will be launched in the country in next two years. The company will launch the facelifted Rapid sedan with the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDI turbo diesel engine that also powers the Polo facelift. The vehicle will be produced at Volkswagen’s manufacturing unit at Chakan, Off Pune.

Skoda will launch a completely restyled Rapid sedan in 2016, which is likely to appear completely different from its sibling sedan (Vento). The 2016 iteration of the saloon is likely to get an all-new turbo petrol and diesel engine line up. Several parts of the Rapid sedan are likely to be heavily localized and the higher level of localization will allow Skoda to price it competitive in the market.

The biggest problem with Skoda downfall in the market is after sales service and high cost of maintenance. Skoda cars are known for offering comfortable driving experience. Now, the company is working to address the customer issues. If media reports are to be believed, the Czech automaker is planning to sell parts online which could help the customers to service their cars outside the traditional after sales service network.
