Volkswagen Taigun’s production version to unveil at Sao Paulo Motor Show

Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV

Volkswagen will unveil the production version of the Taigun compact SUV at the 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show in October. The near production version of the mini SUV was unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. According to the Brazilian media, the VW Taigun will go on sale in Brazil by early 2015. Going by this, we expect that the vehicle might come to India by the end of 2015.

Based on the Volkswagen Up! Platform, the Taigun is 3,858mm long, 1,727mm wide and 1,570mm high, and it has a good wheelbase of 2,469mm. This model will directly compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.

The Brazilian spec VW Taigun is speculated to get a bi-fuel version of the 1.0-litre 3-pot TSI engine that churns out a maximum power output of 110PS. Moreover, the engine parts including turbocharger will be locally manufactured at the company’s manufacturing unit in Sao Carlos, near Sao Paulo.

The Volkswagen Taigun in India will come in both petrol and diesel guise. While the gasoline model will get the 1.0-litre TSI engine that produces 110bhp and 175Nm of torque, the oil burner will be powered by the same 1.2-litre TDI engine producing 74bhp. We expect that the company might also introduce the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel and the 1.2-litre petrol engine that will also power the upcoming VW Polo facelift. Both the engines are coupled to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox, while the petrol engine is also likely to get 7-speed DSG gearbox.
