Honda Jazz RS to be Unveiled at Auto Expo 2016

Honda Jazz is available in 5 trims and a total of 12 variants that are priced between Rs. 5.30 lakh to Rs. 8.59 lakh (ex, Delhi).

New Honda Jazz RS (Racing Sport) variant will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February alongside the BRV Compact SUV and New Accord. Similar to the Mobilio RS, the hatchback’s new model will come with a body-kit that will offer additional equipment and add more to its style quotient. The Jazz RS is likely to feature a black front grille with dark chrome plating, LED headlights with automatic leveling, ‘RS’ badge and chrome door handles.

The vehicle might also get a new pair 5-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels. At the rear end, there will be a ‘RS’ exclusive taillight spoiler, a spoiler-mounted LED stop lamp and license plate with dark chrome garnish. In addition, the new Jazz RS might also be equipped with a 6.2”touchsceen audio visual navigation system, engine start-stop button and cruise control. The Honda Jazz RS is expected to come with a more powerful 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, DOHC i-DTEC diesel engine. This powertrain is capable to produce 98.63bhp of power with 200Nm of torque, and return a mileage of 27.3kmpl.

Honda Jazz RS India Launch Date

Honda Cars India (HCI) will showcase the all-new RS variant of the premium hatchback at this year’s Auto Expo. The launch is likely to happen sometime in 2016.

Since this model will come with a sporty body-kit and a more powerful diesel engine, it is likely to be a bit more expensive than the regular models. It could be priced around Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Exterior Styling

Honda has developed the hatchback’s new model from scratch and gave it an all new design. Based on the company’s ‘Exciting H Design’ philosophy, the vehicle new avatar looks bolder, sleeker and sportier than the old model. The front fascia looks completely new with horizontally stretched out head-lamps, all new bumper with big air-vent, new signature grille. While the old model had a small MPV-like stance, the new-gen model has a proper premium hatchback appeal. The rear profile too looks very refreshing with new tail-lamps with metal inserts and turn indicators on the wing mirrors. Long story short, the vehicle looks a lot better than before.

While the base trim (E) is equipped with the 14-inch alloy wheels, the other variants get 15-inch alloys wrapped with 175/65 R15 tyres. The premium hatchback measures 3,955mm in length, 1,694mm in width and 1,544mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,530mm. The vehicle has a ground clearance of 165mm, and weighs between 1007kgs – 1154kgs. This premium hatchback is offered in 7 color options – Sunset Orange, Carnelian Red Pearl, Urban Titanium Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Jaffeto White, Golden Brown Metallic and White Orchid Pearl.

Interior

The old model was always praised for its interior quality and spaciousness, and the new-gen model is even better in both these departments. While the seats of the car look quite similar to the old model, the extended wheelbase provides more cabin space to occupants. The vehicle also offers best-in-class boot space of 354-litres.

Engine & Transmission

While the petrol variant of the vehicle is powered by the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC unit that did duty to the old model, the diesel engine is the same, 1.5-litre i-DTEC Earth Dreams that powers the City, Amaze and Mobilio. The petrol mill, with a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox, churns out a maximum power output 89bhp at 6, 000rpm and 110Nm of torque at 4, 800rpm. Whereas, the diesel mill, with a 6-speed manual transmission, delivers 99bhp at 3, 600rpm and 200Nm at 1,750rpm.
