At the recently concluded Auto Expo, Fiat-Chrysler India unveiled three new cars including Linea facelift, Avventura crossover and Abarth 500. Mr. Nagesh Basavanahalli, MD Fiat-Chrysler India also said that the company will launch 4 new products this year. Sticking to their promise, Fiat India has finally launched the facelifted version of its flagship sedan Linea.
The 2014 Fiat Linea has been priced at Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Linea gets changes both inside and outside; it is for the first time that Linea gets updated look since it launched five years back. With upgrades, the Linea now looks more premium. The majority of exterior changes are given to its front grille, while the company has given chrome embellishments to make it look fresh and premium.
The dual slat grille and air damp of the top-spec Emotion variant sports lot of chrome. The chrome inserts are also visible on the rear with a chrome strip on bumper and above boot lid. Moreover, the licensing plate is now positioned over boot lid instead of bumper.
What distinguish it from its previous model is its interior, which has received majority of changes. It now features a newly formulated dashboard with a new colour scheme of black and beige; making it looks more premium. A glossy black finish is given to the AC vents and the audio system. The top-spec Linea comes equipped with several advanced features including Climate control, cruise control, rear AC vents, a 4-speaker music system with CD, MP3, USB, Bluetooth and AUX-In compatibility. Adding to it, the vehicle also gets steering mounted controls, reverse parking sensors, Microsoft’s Blue & Me S/W to connect up to five mobile phones.
Mechanically, the new Linea remains unchanged. It continues to be powered by the same 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol mill that churns out a max power output of 114PS and 207Nm of torque. The oil burner gets the tried and tested 1.3-litre Multijet engine producing 93PS and 209Nm of torque. Both the engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, which transmits power to front wheel.
The new Fiat Linea will lock horn with the likes of Honda City, the Hyundai Verna, the VW Vento and the upcoming Ford Fiesta.
