It was speculated that the upcoming Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross SUV will get the Fiat’s sourced 1.6-litre Multi-jet diesel engine. However, the recent reports suggest that Maruti could source 1.6-litre diesel engines from Peugeot. According to the Team BHP report, Maruti has started testing this engine as few details such as the “Maruti Suzuki” badge on the plastic engine cover, and the turbocharged location.
The Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is expected to be launched in the country by the early 2014, which is likely to get the Peugeot’s 1.6-litre diesel engine. Unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the SX4 S-Cross will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. In global markets, the S-Cross is offered with Fiat’s 1.6-litre Multi-jet diesel engine; however, media report suggests that the company has no plans to bring this engine for the India-bound model.
The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross measures 4.3 metre in length, which makes it a perfect competitor against the likes of Nissan Terrano, Mahindra XUV500 and others in the segment. The Peugeot DV6 1.6-litre HDi diesel engine offers two power states- 90bhp (fixed geometry turbo) and 110 hp (variable geometry turbo). The powerful 110bhp engine is expected to power the SX4 S-Cross in India.
