After launching the Maruti S-Cross crossover, India’s largest carmaker is all set to launch its next premium car – the new Baleno hatchback in the country on October 26, 2015. The premium hatchback will be the second product to be sold under NEXA premium dealerships. It will be slotted above the Swift hatchback. The Baleno hatch directly rival against the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto Evo. Maruti Baleno Vs VW Polo Vs Fiat Punto Evo – Specifications
The new Maruti Baleno comes with both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol unit is a 1.2-litre K-Series motor, the oil burner is a 1.3-litre Multi-Jet unit. The former is capable of producing 82.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm along with a peak torque of 115Nm at 4,000rpm, while the later is good for 73.9bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. A five-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard; however, the petrol unit also get a CVT automatic transmission as an optional.

The Volkswagen Polo is offered with three engine options – 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre TSI petrol and 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDI engine. While the naturally-aspirated petrol engine is capable of producing 74bhp, the turbocharged unit is good for 103bhp of power. The 1.5L diesel engine offers two states of tunes – 89bhp and 103bhp of power along with 230Nm and 250Nm of torque respectively. A five-speed manual gearbox is available as standard, while the Polo GT TSI variant gets a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The Fiat Punto Evo on the other side, is available with two petrol and one diesel engine – 1.2-litre petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre MJD diesel. While the 1.2L unit is good for 67bhp and 96Nm of torque, the 1.4L motor produces 89bhp and 115Nm of torque. The oil burner offers two states of tune – 75bhp/197Nm and 90bhp/209Nm. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

The premium hatchback features S-Cross inspired twin-chrome slats front grille, projector headlamps, fog lamps, sloping roofline and sporty rear design. The range-topping variants will get LED DRLs and LED taillights. Inside the cabin, the hatchback gets a 2-DIN audio system, 7-inch Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, navigation system, bluetooth and multi-functional steering wheel. The VW Polo is equipped with stylish front grille, chrome strip that runs across the air-inlet, new double barrel headlights with cornering lamps and newly styled fog lamps. Inside the cabin, the hatchback gets dual-tone colour scheme for dashboard layout, premium fabric for seats, multimedia system with display, climate control, multi-functional steering wheel and display, etc.
The new Fiat Punto Evo’s front fascia resembles the Avventura crossover, featuring sweptback headlamps, new Fiat logo and bumper with mesh air intake, chrome on the fog lamp housing and in the middle of the grille. The vehicle gets flared wheel arches, forward leaning stance, smaller Christmas tree rear light arrangement, large chrome strip on bumper and integrated reflectors. Inside the cabin, the hatchback gets stylish dashboard, new instrument cluster, rear air-conditioning vents, leather trim for seats, gear knob and steering, and climate control.
